Are you a fan of British TV shows like Grantchester and The Vicar of Dibley? There are plenty of other English and Irish shows that feature strong religious characters. This article highlights eleven shows with an interesting array of priests, vicars, nuns, monks, and even a few angels and demons. With a mix of dramas, mysteries, and comedies, there’s something here for every taste.

Ballykissangel

When Father Peter Clifford (Stephen Tompkinson), an English Catholic priest, is transferred to the small Irish village of Ballykissangel he soon realizes the adjustment will be more difficult than he expected. From clashes with Assumpta Fitzgerald (Dervla Kirwan), the prickly, sharp-tongued landlady of the local pub, to friction with his new superior, Father MacAnally, to learning to understand what makes Ballykissangel’s residents tick, Father Clifford struggles to adapt to his new life in this small village full of big personalities. The BBC Northern Ireland drama ran for six seasons between 1996 and 2001.

Bless Me, Father
